Armoured Tourism Street photographs taken through the window of a US military Humvee on manouvers in Afghanistan.

Artist Statement

Armoured Tourism: Afghanistan through a bullet-proof window is a series of photographs taken through the armoured window of a US military HumVee while on patrols with American Army's 10th Mountain Division through the highly volatile and mostly Taliban-controlled Logar province.

As most of the patrolling is done "mounted" (in vehicles), this is the view and interaction with the local population that these soldiers get  most of the time during their tour in Afghanistan.

“The reason many of the locals are looking up,” Kahn explains, “is because there is a gunner sticking out of the HumVee roof, and that is the only soldier the Afghani villagers get to interact with as his/ her body is out of  the truck.”
