After the Fall Locations on the outer edges of urban regions identified through hi-resolution satellite images redefine the notion of public space.

Artist Statement

After the Fall has been a personal journey of discovery across the outer edges of urban regions throughout the world. In the last three years, I have visited more than forty cities in a dozen countries, these destinations being identified by careful examination of high-resolution satellite maps and Google’s Streetview.

“Easy access to this vast sea of information has brought about an expansion of geographic boundaries, a wholesale redefinition of the very notion of public space. We are now granted insight to a world that stretches far beyond our immediate neighbourhoods and personal experiences; it has never been easier to learn of places thousands of miles distant that previously may have been the domain of a select few locals.

“These photographs were made in areas that, until recently, I should have no right knowing about. Despite often being devoid of people, these places are now as much in the public domain as Times Square, Piccadilly Circus or the Notre Dame.
