The Passages series, Sertorio explains, draws on the idea that the modern landscape cannot be separated from human intervention. In the American West, he explains, this idea is epitomized by 'the road'.
“Freeways, overpasses, vehicles, ads, poles, signs, traffic lights are our experience of the 'outdoors',” he says. “We look at them every day and yet we choose not to see them. We experience them without acknowledging them.”
