These pictures are from a project I shot in reaction to the financial mess of late 2008.
I found myself living in New York at that time, the home of Wall Street and thus the center of attention of most news reports. In them there were a lot of images depicting a frantic city, taken aback by the events. But I was seeing something different, more powerlessness than real surprise at the situation. I wanted to illustrate that feeling and think about think about how we got there.
Artist Bio
I was born in France and started taking pictures when I moved, almost accidentally, to the USA in my mid-twenties. I started practicing photography in crowded streets but soon found myself gravitating around quieter places, a little further from people. The way of working is still the same though, I walk around quite randomly in areas I’m curious about and I plan very little. I’m now back in my home country and looking forward to making pictures here, something I have done too rarely since I really picked up a camera.
