Artist Statement
The series include The Blind, about a supposed camouflage that scientists use in the wild to observe nature, and a succinct exploration of the ways humans seek to discover the ‘other’ of the wild and to obliterate themselves in the process. This is a well-known series that has been picked for the cover image of Portfolio magazine, a prestigious contemporary photography journal, as well as exhibited in numerous countries and in the forthcoming Format International Photography Festival in 2011
Artist Bio
Renhui first studied photography at Camberwell College of Arts receiving a BA 1st class in Photography before going on to do his MA at the London College of Communication where he graduated with a Distinction.
He has exhibited both in Singapore and internationally including "A showcase of Arts London's finest Talent", London; "We decided to go to the zoo but it was raining", Paris; "The Ark Project", Format International Photography Festival; "A Touch of Violence", Albania; "Summer Show Project", New York; "Emerging Wave" Seoul; "The Whiteness of a Whale"; Singapore/Japan and "The Blind", Hereford Photography Festival (UK) where he was awarded the People's Choice Award 2010.
In 2007 he was awarded a Research Scholarship by the Chelsea Arts Club. Exhibiting at the Singapore International Photography Festival in 2008 he won the Emerging Artist Award and in 2010 he was awarded the Sony World Photography Award for Constructed and Conceptual photography and selected by Pauline J Yao for the ‘Best of 2010’ in the publication Art Forum.
