The conference provides an engaging and visual link to the theme of the festival and the field of PHOTOCINEMA exploring; photographers on screen; photographic and filmic stillness; photographs in film; the influence of photography on cinema; photo essays and the photographer as filmmaker through a range of presentations from photographers filmmakers and some of the leading thinkers of today. From film still to still film the theme for FORMAT09 conference is positioned in the half-light between these two narrative and technical sensibilities, colliding fact with fiction, historicism with fantasy and reality with the cinematic.
After the conference there will be a reception at the University of Derby, Markeaton Street for the Format Exposure Artists and a screening of ‘Auditorium' a film by photographer Sophy Rickett with music by Ed Hughes..
