PhotoForum: Mark Neville

Mark Neville’s Battle Against Stigma project aims to challenge the stigma of mental health problems in the military and to encourage attitude change. His book and QUAD exhibition is a re-telling of Neville’s own personal experience when he was sent out to Helmand in 2011 as an official war artist, and combines his photographs, films, and texts as a means to give some insight into the issue of adjustment disorder which he found he had fallen victim to on his return.

Showing rarely seen films and images, Neville will talk about the QUAD exhibition 'Battle Against Stigma' and his other projects, and the relationship between the audiences he targets and his unique practice.

‘Mark Neville has re-imagined what documentary photography could be, should be. Instead of the bland ‘deconstructions’ that pass so lazily as ‘critical’ in contemporary art, he makes extraordinary pictures and finds extraordinary ways to get them back to those he has photographed.’ David Campany
