Shot Tower Corner
Eugenia Ivanissevich
Photographs and film become sculptural forms representing movement and action. The playful installation explores how the flat surface of the film screen or photographic print can become a three-dimensional world, how the characters, architecture and narrative of the stills bound out into the space.
For the Format 09 EXPOSURE Award, the artist has been commissioned to create new work. The new installation is a mixture of personal memories triggered by the space and imaginings of the micro histories that may have taken place there. These thoughts are mixed with films where significant scenes take place within chapels. In this act of looking at a particular place (the chapel) as a site specific container of narratives the artist is interested in the potential for fantasy, surrealism and escapism.
