Gerlinde Miesenboeck
Land sterben (land dying) refers to the giving up of farming in remote rural regions due to economic pressure – in particular, where Austria borders the former Iron Curtain.

Since agricultural society shaped rural culture this is a major change for those living in the countryside.

It is a place in transition, which does not meet images of idyllic tourist advertising.
